Pines 2 Patagonia “On Hold”
Pines 2 Patagonia log
When traveling across hemispheres there are plenty of hurdles to overcome. Some are easier than others. Some can not be defeated. Weather is one such obstacle that can not be solved our manipulated by us mortals.
We had originally planned to ship our motorcycles from Oregon to Ushuaia and ride them home. If we would have done that, we would have caught the last part of Summer and a little of early Fall as we explored the Patagonias. However, that option was nearly 3X as much money as it will be to ship them from Ushuaia to Oregon so we decided to go South instead of North. This decision affected our schedule and has brought us to our current crossroads… do we continue to ride and deal with road closures, freezing temps and reduced views or hit the pause button and finish the ride in November when it will be Spring in South America and we can enjoy every second of the trip.
Option 2 seemed like the clear choice to us so we celebrated our accomplishments and began looking at airfare home.
We have been on the road for 48 days, ridden our motorcycles in 9 Countries for a total of 7,350 miles +\-. We had the pleasure of meeting countless new friends and riding along side of some great people. There have been hard days and easy days, difficult discussions and smooth sailing. We are over half way to Ushuaia now and still cannot believe that 3 dudes from Eugene are lucky enough to have the opportunity to see so much of this planet and take in the sights, smells, sounds and tastes of all these beautiful places.
So with sadness in our hearts we said “Hasta luego” to South America and returned to the United States with only what we could carry on our backs. Once we reached Portland International Airport we piled in a rented Jeep Compass and did what we do best… we went South!
Returning to our families and homes felt great. Embracing loved ones and being greeted by dogs who thought we had died was great, but we all felt we were not where we were supposed to be. We are supposed to be on the road.
However we are not in the road anymore so the P2P 2.0 planning begins now! We have a much better idea of how this will go and what to expect. We also have time to research more remote destinations and define our route a little better. We are going to take the “winter” and use it to ensure that the second 1/2 of our trip is even better than the first, and that is going to be hard to beat!
We want to thank all of our Families and Friends who have supported us and followed along on the journey so far. We have had a blast being able to share the experience with you all on this website and social media. We hope we have inspired some of you to take that next step and go check off that bucket list item you have been dreaming about. We only get one shot at this life, so get out there and make the best of it.
We will provide updates and announcements when we have them using the newsletter. If you haven’t signed up for it already please do so.
Thanks again and stay tuned for the second 1/2 of this journey in October of 2026.
