Hydration, Frustration & the Road to San José del Pacífico

Day 16 Pines 2 Patagonia log

La Playa Ventura - Puerto Escondido

As hard as it was to leave our beachfront accommodations, we said goodbye and headed out for another day of riding. Gotta keep moving “Southbound & Down” as the Keebler says.

We continued on hwy 200 through many small towns and roads with lots of curves and even more potholes. The temp was again in the low-mid 90s F, making any stop & go situation rough on the body.

After 15 km of big city traffic we arrived at our proposed home for the evening and ran into an issue. What was advertised as “parking available” was nothing more than a few feet of dirt outside the fenced compound in the dirt alley with trash and vehicle parts strewn about. The room was decent and we explored options including taking the bags off, picking up each bike and walking them through the man door, but ultimately the overheated Ginger rider made the call to relocate to an area where the bikes would be behind a gate and more secure.

Once we arrived at our final destination and began getting squared away, Red was dehydrated and even more grumpy than normal. Matt and Keeb did all the work to get the bikes unloaded, secured and even made an oxxo run for pedialyte and water, lots of water.

We got a message for a friend who has spent some time in a funky little mountain town a few hours East of our current location and did some research. It didn’t take long for the P2P group to decide to head up the hill to the cooler temperatures and amazing views of the Highlands, so we set our sights on San Juan del Pacifico.
