A Full Tank, Full Bellies, and a Long Day

Day 6 Pines 2 Patagonia log

We departed San Felipe with full bellies thanks to our gracious hosts and stopped at a Pemex for a few jugs of water to fill our camel backs.

We jumped on the HWY for what we have been calling a work day. We had a 347 mile ride in front of us and it was time to hammer down.

As we crossed over from the East side of the peninsula to the middle we encountered lots of landscape changes. After riding adjacent the Sea of Cortez for a few hours, we began to meander through lonely deserts, rich cactus forests and areas of rock gardens with thousands of boulders the size of an SUV scattered throughout.

Each rise and fall of the road brought a new view and new hazards. As we came upon a heard of wild Burros “The Keeb” failed to release his friction lock on his throttle. He had plenary of room to weave around a few Burros and giggled over the coms as he came out the other side unharmed.

At the next fuel stop we met Daniel and Claudia. A husband and wife who have traveled over 100,000 miles together on their trusty BMW GS 900. They have been to all corners of this beautiful planet, except for the Patagonias. They gave us some tips and we were on our way.

After a quick stop for some delicious tacos, we booked a room and set our sights on the last 89 miles for the day.

Upon arriving at Rancho Espinoza we were greeted by the host William. A former resident of L.A. who has been here for over 25 years. He showed us around his great casita and gave us a few recommendations for dinner.

After some shrimp ceviche and more tacos, we walked around the cute town square, placed a few of our P2P stickers and headed back to the ranch to plan our next leg.
