Chonies, Checkpoints, and the End of Week One

Day 7 Pines 2 Patagonia log

After departing our outstanding @bookings.com Casita where William went the extra mile to make sure we were well taken care of, we hit the local Pemex to top off the tanks and hit the road.

We chose the eastern route that moved us from the center of the peninsula to the shoreline of the Sea of Cortez. As we begin our descent from the mountains down to the coastline, we knew we were in for one heck of a day.

Weaving our way through one small town after another with stretches of breathtaking highway between them created a day that I’m sure none of us will forget.

We stopped off at a small little seafood restaurant for some fantastic tacos and a few adult beverages. These beverages may have caused Adam and I to exchange vows with Matt officiating the ceremony. (Gotta see the picture)

It was just 5 miles down the road we pulled off the highway again. This time is was to find a way to cope with the 90 deg heat. I thought I found the perfect section of beach, however the soft sand sent Red and LaFonda to the ground…. Twice.

After Adam and Matt helped get Red and his bike out of the sand, we decided to strip down to our chonies and jump into the sea of Cortez… it was AMAZING!

After our swim we loaded up and headed down the road. We traveled inland another 100 miles and checked in to a nice little hotel to finish out week 1.

We have spent 40-hrs and 40-minutes in the saddle. We have traveled 2,134 miles and learned a lot about our machines and ourselves.
